FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Quarantine Opera reaches 1 Million views
Startup Opera company reaches major worldwide attention within the first weeks of its founding, reaching one million views on social media over its first two performances. Soon they will announce their third production.
The Quarantine Opera (QO), founded by Swedish opera singer Marika Schultze in March 2020, began as a platform for freelance musicians to continue performing, following the widespread cancellations of performances in concert halls, opera houses and festivals all over the world.
The QO released an open call on social media for musicians in isolation to send in their performances for their first production: “Habanera", from Bizet’s Carmen. This performance featured 30 musicians from 17 different countries, and, already within the first week of posting, Habanera received 13,000 shares and 750,000 views on Facebook alone. Following the success of this project, they announced their second project: “Brindisi”, from Verdi’s La Traviata. This project grew significantly and featured 100 musicians from 40 different countries, spreading over 6 continents - including soloists from coveted opera companies such as the Washington National Opera and Chicago Opera Theatre. The QO’s third production is reported to be announced shortly.
"Our vision, of connecting people around the world through opera and thus creating something positive from this unique situation with global quarantine, has become a reality" says CEO Marika Schultze. Music Director, Fergus McAlpine, said: “The QO has not only reignited the artistic spark that we’ve needed but also created a global community of musicians. To do this and spread it as widely as we have is something very special indeed!”
